Sławomir Kumka

Sławomir Kumka is an experienced technology executive and business leader with over 30 years in software engineering and more than two decades in senior leadership roles. He currently serves as Executive Director at IBM, where he leads global development of enterprise-grade software solutions and manages the IBM Software Laboratory in Kraków—one of the company’s key R&D centers in Central and Eastern Europe.

Sławek specializes in artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and enterprise applications, with a strong focus on delivering mission-critical systems for the financial sector. He leads globally distributed, cross-functional teams responsible for high-scale platforms, including financial transaction management and fraud detection systems, combining deep technical expertise with strategic business acumen.

Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in building and scaling engineering organizations, driving large-scale digital transformation, and modernizing software architectures toward cloud-native and AI-enabled solutions. His leadership is characterized by a strong emphasis on operational excellence, automation, and continuous delivery, as well as fostering high-performing, empowered teams.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Sławek is actively engaged in shaping the future of technology talent and innovation ecosystems. He is a member of the Sectoral Council for Competence in Telecommunications and Cybersecurity,  He collaborates closely with academic institutions to advance education in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including co-developing qualifications in artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Sławek holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków and an Executive MBA with graduation with distinction from the University of Warwick.
